Wang Chengjing, born in 1993 in Shandong, China, currently resides in Chongqing. She focuses on painting and digital art.
The artist has always felt a powerful, outward-dispersing energy within herself, one that tears her apart in repeated cycles. She constantly carries with her a black hole, an emptiness that cannot be filled, leading her to perceive everything as profoundly hollow. In Wang Chengjing’s work, recurring geometric forms and brushstrokes reminiscent of human cells and bones symbolize growth and proliferation. The abundance of repeated, overlapping, and intertwined symbols and lines in her work serves as a process of "filling" this void. The artworks themselves become remnants of these actions.
The repeated "destruction-reconstruction" process is the artist's interpretation of the fragility of life, a way of covering personal wounds, and a response to the inexorable forces of fate. She rejects a passive acceptance of these forces, instead deconstructing her own experiences through a Quixotic intentionality, questioning what constitutes "correct" or "meaningful" action. She acknowledges that existence is absurd and meaningless, and she uses a restorative, self-consuming mode of resistance to confront the endless struggle and helplessness brought on by this absurdity.
